It was bound to happen; the day my father had been dreading since my mother spoke of its happening. It's Thursday morning, everyone at the mansion seemed a bit more uptight than usual. Mother was upstairs going through her enormous closet trying to find just the right outfit. Colton is ignoring the numerous calls from girls who found out what's going on, father is on the sofa with a beer in hand and looking at the other 5 on the table in front of him; as for me, I'm just sitting here waiting for this whole day to end.
"Oh My GOD...I don't have a decent thing to wear!!" was heard screeching from upstairs.
Apparently, Mother was having wardrobe issues. Father shakes his head while working on can number 2. "Would you like for me to go help her out, old man?" I asked knowing his response. "Are you nuts? I hope she doesn't find a damn thing to wear so we don't have to do this shit!"
"I kind of like all the attention this is bringing me. "Colton smiles as he ignores yet another call. About forty-five minutes have passed and the old man had just tossed the last of the six pack into the trash can in the kitchen. It was only an hour till showtime.
Walking her way down the spiral staircase, Mother came down with a purpose as Father shook his head smiling as she stopped to prance around him. "Damn woman, who's funeral?"
Mother just rolled her eyes and looked at him smiling, "Theirs, if I'm lucky." she winks with a sly grin.
It's amusing to watch them sometimes seeing how they act together; It's like high school theatrics crossed with wild kingdom. I don't think I will ever get used to it.
"How long must we sit through the torture anyway, why did they specifically say Colton and I had to be there? I thought this was supposed to be for Dad's Hall of Fa..."
Shit, it's out of the bag now, I had forgotten Mother said that was supposed to be a surprise; Dad would never have agreed to do this if he knew what it was about.
"Summer..." Oh Shit, Dad was pissed!
"Oh come on, Idjit.." Mom stood with her hands upon her hips.
This was the ultimate Love/Hate relationship of all time. I'm surprised there was never a book written about these two! Of course, things are not always as pretty as some may think at times, but at the end of the day no matter how angry they are, no matter what Mother has done, they have each other's back and with no doubt, willingly die for the other. This too is my curse, the Hurst family vow of New Breed!
The car pulls up to the hotel, Father looks around a bit confused as to why we are here. (The Miraval Austin Resort)
"This is the address they sent me in the invitation. "Mother also looked a bit confused.
She shrugs her shoulders and of course we all get out of the car. Paparazzi all of a sudden begin to swarm the limo as Mother of course steps out. Colton is waving, young girls scream his name, flashing cameras everywhere. One poor bastard has a sign lifted high above his head a few rows back..(Marry me Cassie) I smile, and give him the thumbs up of course, just to please Mom.
A tall, skinny, malnourished looking man holds up a blow-up doll, that looks like Mom, yelling to get her attention. Both Mom and Dad glare over to the man and Dad laughs, nudging her, "I see he got the quiet version." Mother just rolled her eyes.
As we hit the entrance to the hotel, we see a flashy looking young lady holding the hand of a small child. she catches the eye of my father and of course my mother.
"Mr. Hurst, could you sign my son's shirt?" she smiles.
Now of course this shirt was not the size of that little child whose hand she holds, but she extends her arm out to my father. Normally Dad would just keep walking, however this one was different. Perhaps it was the six pack he drank just before coming here, that loosened him up a bit. He takes the New Breed shirt, scribbling his name upon the right sleeve. He hands it back to the lady and smiles. He reaches to the top of his head pulling off his ball cap and placing it upon the small child's head.
"..And she seems to have gotten the whipped one." Mom laughed at dad as she pushes him into the building.
The stage was set, we were all directed to our seats and the camera man began his count down.
The Interview
As the introductions began, Father looked more annoyed about being here than Mom did eating up the attention. Girls still shout Colton's name, men still cat calling mom, and I sit here just a lump on a log, waiting for the sun to set.
"So..Hunter, all the guys out in the audience are wondering what’s it like to be married to one of the hottest women to ever step foot in the squared circle?" Rebeka smirks.
Summer cuts her eyes to Ms. Rebeka. "One of?” She stands from the sofa chair, “You mean THE Hottest!” She turns around as the cat calls come from the audience before sitting back down next to Hunter.
Hunter lowers his head and just holds up his hands pointing at Summer.
“What my husband is trying to say here, is that there is never a dull moment at our house!”
"Ok, Summer, All the ladies want to know what the secret is for having a long successful marriage like yours and Hunter’s.
The camera switches from Rebeka over to Summer.
Hunter leans back in the chair; a sly smile grows on his face as he knows what is going to be said.
“Have you not seen him?" She gestures to Hunter with a smile. "Truthfully, its honesty, trust, having each other's back, supporting them, being each other's best friend while at the same time, trying not to kill each other." She laughs.
"Communication and making time for each other, flirt with each other daily, never, ever allow things to get boring, and never go to sleep mad at each other."
She turns to Hunter. "Oh, and let's not forget about the SEX."
She smiles while placing her hand onto his thigh.
Everyone in the audience is cheering. "You gotta keep your man smiling ladies!!"
The camera pans over as Colton shakes his head while face palming himself.
Hunter just smiles a devilish grin, he lowers his hand down, placing it on top of Summer's.
Cassie is seen rolling her eyes whispering to both her parents, "Get a room."
Rebeka starts laughing, “Ok then, with all the years in the ring behind you all, what was your most memorable match?”
“Without a doubt the street fights with Lupin. We almost killed each other three times.” Hunter replies as the camera pans over to Summer.
“Well, this one was not really an official match that took place; however, it was the best night of my career. My "supposed" wedding to Johnny Hawke.
The crowd was mixed with cheers and boos as the camera zooms in to see Hunter smiling as he remembered it well.
As Hawke stood in the center of the ring, with referee, Zane Alexander, The Pied Piper Kirk Visconty and Cheri as witnesses, I start to walk down the ramp dressed in a Vera Wang original to the wedding march. While of course all eyes were on me, Including Piper’s."
One fan shouts "PIPER".
"Cheri was getting a bit antsy at the fact and ripped the dress right off me as I entered the ring. Now while Hawke was surprised and confused, that I did not go after Cheri, I stood there in the center of the ring in my skimpy black teddy as the crowd cheered. The fact that, when Hawke expected Gyon, and Hunter, who was still backstage at the time, to intervene, and nothing happened, he went straight for Piper who stood laughing, himself. Cheri wanted to step in of course, but I blocked her shot and shook my head at her. Hawke was smiling so big that moment, BUT I went to Kirk's aid instead; not that he needed it of course, but I turned to Hawke, and landed my right boot across the back of his head. Everyone looked shocked! Gyon and Zane were laughing, and Hunter had finally walked down the ramp and stepped into the ring. The three of us stood over Hawke's body and the New Breed Banner hit the jumbotron with just Gyon's, Hunter's and my image only across the screen."
Rebeka’s eyes grew big remembering the segment well, “So basically the night you and New Breed turned on Hawke?”
“Precisely! “Summer replied.
The camera panned over to both Colton and Cassie now as Rebeka begins to ask her next question.
“Colton, alot of these single ladies out here are dying to know if there is a special woman in your life right now?”
You can hear the wooos coming from the crowd as Rebeka looks eager for a quick answer.
“Maybe one or two.” He replied. You could hear the men in the crowd cheering him on as he smirks.
“Cassie, what about you? anyone, you care to mention?" Cassie just shakes her head and Rebeka looks stunned.
"..okay, well, has being the daughter of Summer, ever have you feeling pressured to be like her in the ring? Was being in your mother’s shadow ever something you worried about?
Cassie looked up and over to both parents from the opposite side of the table. “NEVER!! and as I am my mother's daughter by blood, I am NOTHING like her, never was, never will be..and as far as standing in ANYONE'S shadow...I don't, I create my own!”
Rebeka’s eyes grew wide, and a slight tone of laughter was heard in her voice. “Guess I struck a nerve with that one.”
The audience laughed.
“Do you all ever feel like stepping back into the ring again?
The camera pans over to Hunter as he was the first to reply. “After having my neck and spine fused multiple times there is no chance of that, plus there is no one worthy of my time anymore.”
Colton takes the spotlight next as the camera pans over to him. “If there was something to prove maybe, but everything we wanted to do in this business we have done. It would take a lot more and better talent to make that happen.”
The camera pans back over to Summer, “Who says I've stopped?” She smiles as she flips her blonde hair off her shoulder.
You hear Cassie’s voice as the camera tries to pan over quickly. “No...”
Rebeka is now seen grabbing her glass of water, taking a sip while readying herself for her final question.
“So, for our last question of the night, this one is for you..Colton, The camera stays focused upon Colton’s face, “This is something everyone has been wanting to know for a long time now.. In the time you were working with the mob,...
Before Rebeka could finish the question, the camera pans over to Summer as this suddenly gets her attention and she gestures her waving hand under her chin as to stop her before it was asked. ....Did you have any involvement with the death of your girlfriend at the time and also the attack and sexual assault on your sister?”
The camera quickly took focus upon Cassie’s face, they zoom in upon her eyes as she stands to her feet, her eyes looked of rage and she flips the small table between her seat and Rebeka’s desk over, spilling its contents all over Miss Andrews and walks out of the studio.
The camera now shifts to Hunter as he stands up looking at the mess his daughter created and walks out after Cassie. He stops and looks at Rebeka and flips her off; he then continues his way out. The camera tries to zoom in on Colton’s reaction, however Summer’s voice was heard.
“You don't have to answer that, son!”
Colton watches his father and sister leave; He looks at Summer with a distraught look upon his face, he turns towards Rebeka, looking with an expression like he was just slapped across the face. The camera zooms in quickly as he turns to his mother and whispers “ I am sorry.” He too then walks across the stage and off the set.
In utter disgust, Summer glares across the sofa starring down Miss Andrews as if she was about to snap. She now looks on as her entire family leaves the stage.
She stands, walks over to the table in which Cassie just turned over, looks at the camera man, “Shut that shit down NOW.." She walks over to Rebeka, leans down and whispers in her ear.
Within minutes, you see Summer being escorted past her family in the parking deck of the hotel with her hands cuffed behind her back, she winks at Hunter before being put into the backseat of the police car.
